Fed Chair Jerome Powell and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent held an emergency meeting with the heads of Bank of America, Citigroup, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, and Wells Fargo after the limited rollout of Anthropic's Claude Mythos, which officials believe can debilitate Fortune 100 companies, infiltrate national defense systems, and take down large portions of the internet, according to Axios. Anthropic distributed Mythos to roughly 40 organizations including major banks, saying the model is too powerful for public release, with security experts telling Business Insider that while human teams discover about 100 critical unpatched flaws per year, Mythos can find thousands. The Trump administration convened the meeting out of concern that Mythos, while designed to help companies defend against hackers, could also be used offensively to target the U.S. financial system, per Bloomberg.
