The day before opening statements began in his trial against OpenAI, Elon Musk posted more than two dozen times on X attacking the company, its CEO Sam Altman, and co-founder Greg Brockman, pushing the narrative that he helped create OpenAI to benefit humanity but that it lost its way after converting to a for-profit company. Musk referred to Altman as “Scam Altman” and accused him and Brockman of personally enriching themselves through the nonprofit's assets, and appeared to boost a weeks-old New Yorker article critical of Altman to his 240 million followers, with X labeling the post as “boosted” by his account. The social media campaign is unlikely to influence the jury, which is typically instructed to avoid news and social media, but follows a pattern Musk established in March when he similarly posted about a separate trial in which he was ultimately found partly liable for misleading investors during his acquisition of Twitter.
