ByteDance plans to increase its 2026 capital expenditure to approximately $23.1 billion (160 billion yuan) to bolster its AI infrastructure and catch up with U.S. rivals. The company intends to allocate more than half of this budget toward advanced semiconductors, specifically targeting Nvidia's H200 chips pending export approvals, while simultaneously preparing to lease overseas data centers should restrictions persist. Despite this increase from its 2025 spending of 150 billion yuan, the investment remains a fraction of the $300 billion collectively spent by major U.S. tech firms on data center buildouts this year.
