Big Tech spared strict rules in EU digital regulation overhaul

Alphabet, Meta, and others avoided strict binding regulations in the upcoming EU Digital Networks Act despite pressure from telecom providers. Sources revealed that the European Commission opted for a voluntary cooperation framework rather than mandatory obligations for the technology giants. EU tech chief Henna Virkkunen planned to present the legislation on January 20 to harmonize spectrum allocation and boost infrastructure investment.
