Aptoide filed a federal antitrust lawsuit against Google alleging it maintains an anticompetitive chokehold on third-party app stores

Lisbon-based alternative app store Aptoide filed suit in San Francisco federal court seeking an injunction against anticompetitive practices and unspecified damages, alleging Google uses its market position to suppress third-party app stores on Android. The lawsuit follows Aptoide's 2014 EU antitrust complaint against Google and comes shortly after Google resolved its separate dispute with Epic Games last month by reducing Play Store commission rates to 20% and announcing plans to support sideloading of third-party app stores. Aptoide, which launched on iOS in February 2025 with its own in-app purchase system, has not disclosed the full scope of its damages claim.
