Anthropic updates its privacy policy to let it require ID and biometric age checks from consumer Claude users

by | Jun 15, 2026 | Latest E-commerce News & Updates

Anthropic revised its privacy policy to reserve the right to ask consumer Claude users to verify their age or identity, with verification data potentially including a government ID, a live selfie, and facial-geometry templates that may count as biometric data. The change takes effect July 8 and applies only to Free, Pro, and Max accounts, not Team, Enterprise, or API customers, with checks run through third parties Persona and Yoti rather than stored by Anthropic directly. The policy doesn't spell out what triggers a check or the consequences of refusing, which The Register notes arrives amid a wave of state and international age-verification laws targeting AI chatbots, and as Anthropic works to block rivals from copying its models through distillation.
