Amazon denies viral reports of 14,000 planned layoffs in May, calling the claims “not based in fact”

Amazon pushed back on widely circulated reports claiming the company planned to cut 14,000 employees in May, telling Mint the claims were “false and not based in fact.” The reports originated on the job forum Blind, where an anonymous poster claiming insider knowledge said the cuts would come with significant restructuring, before being amplified by Chinese-language tech portal Lei Feng. The denial comes months after Amazon laid off 16,000 employees in January, and as CEO Andy Jassy said in a June 2025 memo that AI integration across the company would mean “fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today.”
